The Hoax
Lasse Hallstrom (Chocolate) directs Richard Gere (Days of Heaven) in this adaptation of the true story of what was almost a great con. When Clifford Irving pitched his new book— a biography of Howard Hughes— to a premier publishing house, they loved it. Too bad for them that it was bogus, and that it spawned a media frenzy.

Carlos Saura’s Flamenco Trilogy-- Eclipse Series 6

Blood Wedding
With a spectacular form of filmmaking to create the feel of moving with the dancers, Blood Wedding is a depiction of a single dress rehearsal of Antonio Gades’s adaptation of Federico Garcia Lorca’s tale of passionate revenge.
Carmen
In a mix of Bizet’s opera and Prosper Merimee’s novella, Carmen follows the jealous love story of Antonio and his lead dancer, weaving in and out of the play and real life.
El Amor Brujo (Love the Magician)
In a modern take on Manuel de Falla’s gypsy ballet, Carlos Saura paints the screen in pink sunsets and hellishly red fires, following a story of a man’s love for a woman who is haunted by the ghost of another.

And don't forget to check out the other titles in the Eclipse series. Early Bergman, The Documentaries of Louis Malle, Late Ozu, Raymond Bernard, and the first films of Samuel Fuller. All of which you can rent at The Cinemat.
